Pick Strawberries Day is May 20th

May 20th is Pick Strawberries Day, being from San Diego this is a day to look forward to because the one thing better than strawberries is freshly picked strawberries. Strawberries are mostly used for jams or in desserts but are also amazing in salads.

Hand picking strawberries is a blast and especially fun with kids, if picking fresh strawberries isn’t an option for you, be sure to pick a pound or two up from your local grocery story to try these delicious recipes. If you really love strawberries pick up a couple extra pounds they freeze well, just wash (dry) and hull them before freezing. Frozen strawberries are also great in smoothies!

 

 

National Chocolate Chip Day is May 15th

May 15th is National Chocolate Chip Day!
Did you know chocolate chips were created at the Toll House Inn in Massachusetts when Ruth Graves Wakefield ran out of bakers chocolate and instead used some chopped up semi-sweet chocolate. Ruth’s chocolate chip cookies were an instant hit in the 1930’s and now they are the classic go to for a sweet treat.
